Some would say it takes a special kind of person to like winter camping. A lot of people tend to stay away from camping in the winter for a few different reasons. One of these reasons being that most people don’t know what to do during the day. Well, I’m here to share with you a few different things that will help you pass time while winter camping. Let’s get into it….
1. Snowball Fight
This one is self explanatory, but you only want to do this if you have extra clothes or snow pants. There is nothing worse than wet clothes on a cold winter day.
2. Build an igloo
Another idea would be to build an igloo. This can be kind of tricky, but you can see step by step instructions here.
3. Go Ice Fishing
This is a very fun way to spend the day. If there is a frozen lake near your campsite, you can ice fish. If you are in a warmer climate, you could fish normally.
4. Have a Movie Night
In the winter, the sun sets earlier and a lot of times people tend to go to their tents earlier. I recommend making some popcorn over the fire, cuddling up in your tent and watching a movie or two.
5. Go snowshoeing
This is a fun way to explore the wilderness around you. If you don’t own a pair of snowshoes, you can rent them from a nearby outdoor gear rental shop.
6. Snowman Building Contest
This is a fun idea, especially if you are camping with kids. Have everyone build their best snowman and you can decide if you want to rank them or just do it for fun.
7. Go Sledding
This is a lot of fun for everyone, once again, especially for kids. Find a close hill to your campsite and get to sledding!
8. Read a book
I personally love reading books while camping. It is very relaxing to sit next to the fire or in your tent and read.
9. Play Cards
Playing cards is a great activity for camping in any weather. You can play outside or in your tent depending on the weather and how light it is outside.
10. Cook a Delicious Meal
During the winter you probably want to make a warm meal. Soup is a great camp meal. It is very easy if you make it before your trip and freeze it. Then just put in in a pot and heat it up over the fire or a camp stove.
